What is SAGA?

SAGA stands for San Antonio Gender Association. SAGA is a support group for Transsexual, Transgender and Gender Variant individuals. We also welcome significant others, family, friends and allies. Meetings are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month.

We need your voice to be heard at Citizens To Be Heard before City Council on Wednesday, June 12, 6:00 pm at City Council Chambers. THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT OPPOSITION WILL BE THERE IN FORCE, SO WE NEED ALL HANDS ON DECK! All those who support adding LGBTQ and veteran protections to our city’s non-discrimination ordinances are welcome, but we especially need more straight allies, veterans, parents of LGBTQ children, business owners and transgender persons to speak. For talking points and sign-up information, email us at causasanantonio@gmail.com. You must sign up before 6 pm on Wednesday, June 12, if you wish to speak. You can sign up online after 8 am on Wednesday morning here: http://www.sanantonio.gov/yourcity/meetingappear.aspx

Each speaker is limited to 3 minutes. Groups of 3 or more can sign up as a group and will be given 9 minutes to speak, but they all must go to the podium together and can divide up the time among two or more speakers.

Wear something RED! We will pass out CAUSA stickers.

This time we will tell the mayor and council that we have been more than patient, that we are tired of waiting and that we want these protections NOW! And, further, that no one group is more equal than another (in case they decide to take separate votes on each of the three protected classes).

Also, please call your local district representative and let them know you support adding LGBTQ and veteran protections to the current city code.

Yesterday’s meeting was a great way to end the year with SAGA! There was lots of good food, familiar faces and even a few newbies! Thanks to everyone for attending and a special ‘thank you’ to all of you who were able to bring food! Maybe we can organize something like this a few times a year! I hope everyone enjoys the holidays and we’ll see you all next year!

Thursday, December 20th will be the last meeting of SAGA this year! We will be having a potluck dinner, with many members already signed up to bring food. If you’d like to bring food, you are encouraged to do so but it is by no means mandatory. Whether you attend most of the meetings, attend every once and a while, or are a newcomer, EVERYONE is welcome to hang out and have a good time in a safe environment!

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of SAGA! We’ve been offering a safe haven for members of the LGBT community to come, meet new people and discuss how to educate others and enrich our lives within the community. We always welcome new members. If you are curious, please shoot us an email or visit one of our business or social meetings. We have members of all age groups and all walks of life, and we all look forward to meeting you!
